It becomes very easy to forget that a human being is connected to every story and that without exception, no one set out to become an addict. No one planned to get physiologically and mentally dependant on a drug or alcohol. This is not to mean we are not responsible for our lives and our actions, but sometimes in all the rhetoric it is easy to forget how difficult and uncomfortable withdrawl can be.Drug and alcohol withdrawl and detox can be very uncomfortable. Even with some of the drugs to switch and taper off with it is still no bed of roses. People need compassion and support during these times. Encouragement, which is free to give, can be one of the most potent and helpful drugs of all. Find an competent physician and detox, and move forward. I began my switch from prescription pain meds to suboxone maintenance about 6 weeks ago. It has taken me a while getting my dose stable.i unfortunately suffered a lung infection during my first week and was unable to comprehend which item (suboxone/withdrawal or lung infection) was causing the side effects (sweating, chills, etc.), so I bounced from 12 mg the first weeks to 3-4mg the next few days, then back to 12 for last 10-12 days.The point of this is to share it might take a while for one to "feel" comfortable and that the cause may be an unrelated health issue occurring at the wrong time.I am really grateful that I was willing to take a risk and try this medication. I have been addicted to any and all opiat pain meds in the past, vicodine, percocet, oxy, etc. I have been on Suboxone for over six months now and have nothing but success. Well, four days ago I decided to go off Suboxone cold turkey and I believe this to be one of the worst withdraws I have gone though. I had cut the dosage down within a long period of time. The first two days weren't all too awful..just uncomfortable. I was mostly unable to sleep and a bit joint pain. I woke up (from the very few hours I have been getting each night) this morning feeling like I had a bad case of the flu. I was very dizzy and my stomach was cramping. It felt like I could feel my heartbeat in my head along with a horrid headache. One of the hardest parts is the emotional rollarcoaster I am on. I am okay one min, fly off the handle the next, break down in full blown break downs and crying the next. It is currently the evening of the fourth day and, allthough I am hopeful that this will over in a week or so like past expierences, I would have just gone through the withdraw of the opiats and called it a day. At least that withdraw would have been worth it. I have been an addict for about 10+ years now, going from Heroin to Methadone to Suboxone and I personally beleive that I Heroin is by far the easiest to get off of. They say that Suboxone is supposedly easier to withdraw from than Methadone, but I'm not too sure it's much different - in fact, I'm experiencing it to be tougher! For real.I recently took a trip with Family away from my surroundings to dry out from Methadone and Heroin,...but I secretly(stupidly)brought four 8 mg pills of suboxone to use as an emergency, which of course I gave in to, and while yes, it definitely helped with the terror or kicking, now I am trying to simply get off the 6 days of Suboxne use and IT IS NO JOKE!!!! I keep finding myself having to take a lil bit every day just to take away the discomfort I'm feeling. And get this, I'm only taking 2mg a day!!! Today I took about 1mg because I am so scared that after all I went through, this is all just gonna start the vicious cycle all over again. I heard the same thing from other internet blogs that getting off Suboxone is so rare and there simply is not enough research/time/experience to know the truth. One person wrote that he/she was down to only a 1/2 mg a day and trying to ween off it was so miserable. I can't imgaine being on a higher normal dose(like let's say 12 mg a day for a # of months) and trying to get off it. ANd don't forget, I;ve been on Methadone for about 5 years straight now! If anything I wrote peaks your interest, please write back, hopefully with good news. The first day i was on 4 mgs and the second day on 8 mgs, by the 4th day I was on 12 mgs and my WD's was long gone.The first 2 weeks I undrstand are the most critcal.
