What is the difference between Bupernorphine and Methadone treatment?

Anyone know the difference between these two treatment methods? I am think about starting a program and not really sure which is the best way to go. I have done cold turkey multiple times and this has to stop.

I am no doctor, but I believe bupernorphine is prescribed in an office-based setting instead of you going to a clinic daily. Also, I think I read somewhere that the drug has shown higher success rates for treating opiate addiction.

I have tried both methods. Methadone is nothing really in my opionion but trading one addiction for another. It made me very dopy and not able to work. Detoxing from methadone is also far worse than detoxing from opiates in my opinion. Bup actually killed any cravings with a mild high in contrast to methadone. It actually made me feel like my old self and it is a lot easier to taper off from

Both methadone and buprenorphine are available at "methadone clinics" Bup is also available from private physicians with special training. Any buprenorphine provider should be able to provide you with an assessment to see if bup or methadone is your best choice. Medication assisted treatment is not for everyone. Get an assessment and find out if it is for you. If it is not your best choice, the provider should be able to advise you on where to go. Find a provider at www.samhsa.gov
