Q:
Why would someone who has so much going for her turn to
drugs?
A:
Addiction is a brain disease that has complex
psychological, social and spiritual components. If not
curbed early, it leads to compulsive misuse of the drugs
and the alcohol. This generates impaired judgment and
leads to irrational thoughts and behavior, typical of
those who misuse drugs.
Q: This will be her third trip to the rehab
program this year.
A: Addiction is a chronic,
progressive disease with susceptibility to relapse
tendencies. Relapse often commences with changes in our
thoughts and attitude until it culminates in the
behavior of returning into misusing mood altering
substances.
Q:
What does it mean to be in recovery?
A:
Recovery is not a destination, but a life long process
that requires intense effort to build a strong recovery
foundation that promotes a drug free life. The goal is
recovery from physical psychological, social and
spiritual effects of addiction.
